We had a factory to transform.
When I joined our sheet-metal factory in Cikarang, my job was to help turn it into a smart factory. We already had ERP and MES to manage the business and production. Yet an audit found that around 70% of the data reviewed was unreliable.
That experience changed how I thought about digitalization. What good were expensive tools if our culture wasn’t ready to use them well?
For me, the everyday habits behind 5S and lean were part of building that foundation. I knew how hard those habits were to sustain because I struggled with them myself. How could I expect our teams to find them any easier?
We would have bought a solution, but the options we found didn’t give enough attention to keeping people involved. So we built Disiplean, working on the platform’s design first.
We’d already learned that having a tool didn’t mean people would use it. Games and competition had shown us how enthusiastic people could become. We wanted to bring some of that enthusiasm into everyday work, which led us to build gamification into Disiplean.
We were building it for ourselves. Selling it wasn’t the plan. But some of our clients kept asking if they could use it too, and eventually we decided to offer it to other companies.
Our factory and offices still use Disiplean today. We’re now working with partners to develop it for other industries.
